First Lady Michelle Obama has made the Let’s Move! program a cornerstone of her tenure in the White House. Her goal, to solve the problem of childhood obesity within a generation, has reached into the schools through educational initiatives and the grassroots Chefs Move to Schools (CMTS) program, whereby a chef adopts a local school and exposes the community to healthy eating habits.

Chef Mike Speranza, CEC, has had a busy year with CMTS. He has worked with students, parents, teachers, school foodservice staff, and the administration of Victor Central Schools in Victor, New York, in addition to working with the ACF on this initiative. As a result of his leadership, Chef Speranza has been chosen as one of five ACF chefs to receive a special self-guided tour of the White House, including the East Wing, Blue room, Red room, Green room, and will have a chance to see the White House Christmas tree. The event will take place in December.

We will check back with Chef Speranza after the event. Congratulations Chef on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
